What a great action photo by the head of track maintenance, Rich Soper. This picture really captures just how competitive the open class at Shoreham can be. With the wet weather on Friday the track had a little moisture in it which resulted in slightly slower lap times during the time trial qualifying round. Most riders were slower by about one second but the riders with serious power were able to get much closer to last week’s time and two riders even bettered their time from last week. Serious power for sure.
This week was the first time we were able to test out a new addition to the 16 and Over Expert/Pro Open qualifying format, the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). This format gives up to eight riders one ‘last chance’ to qualify for the three main events. The LCQ was exciting to watch, even with only four riders on the gate but to fill one of the two available positions at that number you only had to beat two of your competitors to transfer to the mains. Once that LCQ has eight guys trying to fill two spots things should get interesting...
