You may notice that the times are now being recorded down to .01 seconds. Thanks to the installation of the Tara stop watch module we are no longer relying on the accuracy of our stop watch operators. The times you see in this table are 100% legit, although looking back at the previous timed laps it is easy to see that Keith Kelley and Ken Blume did an outstanding job keeping track of the lap times. Good news is, now they can watch the action instead of concentrating on timing it.
The stop watch module is actually pretty simple. It connects to the Tara starting system and starts timing when the starting tree's green light lights. It is stopped when a rider runs over the yellow stop switch placed at the finish line. It was fairly simple to set up and is easy to connect and disconnect or even move the stop switch to time a shorter distance (like to the first jump).
In the near future we are hoping to be able to let riders of all ages get in a timed lap. Who will earn the bragging rights out of all the up and coming riders at Shoreham BMX? Stay tuned...
